What Convertisio is
Convertisio is a free online image converter for the three formats people run into most: WebP, PNG and JPG (also called JPEG). There is no account, no sign-up, no watermark and no email address to give. You add your images, pick a format, and download the results.
Your images stay on your device
Many online converters upload your files to a server, convert them there and send them back. Convertisio works differently. When you add an image, your browser decodes it, draws its pixels onto a canvas and re-encodes them in the new format using the image encoders built into the browser. This runs inside a Web Worker, a background thread of the page, so the page stays responsive while files are converted one at a time. On browsers that cannot create WebP files themselves (some versions of Safari), Convertisio loads a small WebAssembly build of the open-source libwebp encoder to do the same job, still on your device.
Your images are never uploaded. Convertisio has no backend server and no database for them, so we never receive, store or see your images or their file names. Once the page has loaded, conversion even keeps working if your connection drops.
Supported conversions
We try to be clear about what a conversion can and cannot do. Converting a JPG to PNG, for example, cannot bring back detail lost to earlier compression, and photo metadata such as camera details or GPS location is not copied to the new file. Each conversion page explains the trade-offs.
How Convertisio is funded
Convertisio is free because it shows advertising. Advertising and cookie-based analytics only run after you agree in the cookie banner, and you can change your choice at any time. Before each download, a short video ad is shown. If no video is available, if your browser blocks it, or if you refuse advertising cookies, you simply wait a few seconds instead: the download is never withheld. Who is behind Convertisio
Convertisio is an independent project run by Aissa Scarmure in Belgium. It was built to be the converter its author wanted: quick, honest about what each format does, and respectful of the files people trust it with.
